Light and Shade

How can we appreciate how bright the light is , if we don't have the contrasting darkness of shade?
The gerbera is one of my favourite flowers to photograph and I had great fun today in my new studio . . .The Zen Nest , taking lots of shots on what could have been a miserable Monday , if not for these little guys brightening my mood
